There's a big football game on tonight, and we have just enough time to get home after church before kickoff. The weather here is surely changing - snow is forecast for Tuesday and Wednesday! So we decided to stretch out the grilling season a bit more, with piles of soul food. I imagine our son-in-law, the original pyromaniac will also get a fire going in the fireplace.
The menu for tonight:
Chips and salsa for starters (everyone's always starving after church!)
Burgers and dogs on the grill
Cheesy baked beans
Corn casserole
Chocolate cake and tin roof sundae ice cream for dessert
I also opened all the Halloween candybars and set them out in a big bowl for free browsing!
Then there's the other kind of soul food, that which will keep us satisfied long after we've gotten over the heartburn from tonight's menu:
So no hand wringing, or losing sleep, or sharing despairing talk with others over coffee or in the grocery line, or wherever God puts us this week. Rather, what an opportunity to remind ourselves and others He's still on the throne, and nothing, absolutely nothing happens that catches Him by surprise. Food for the soul, surely.

The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Phil: 4:5b-7If we Christians are sitting around, wringing our hands as much as those who have no hope, what testimony is that to an unbelieving world? What good is our God if we don't have a life preserver to hang onto and tell others about, when life gets hard?

Someone I know struggles from time to time with anxiety and/or depression. I hear that this is one of her favorite verses. Ever.
Thanks for both kinds of soul food. And, I'd be so thankful for the cheesy baked bean recipe, too.
What a great, and well timed Word!
A word in season Bev!
Good thoughts Bev. I needed that today. It will head me in the right direction.
Your football food sounded great....cheesy baked beans...yum!
Very well timed. My new husband was just laid off on Friday - while not in total panic mode, both of us are struggling a bit. I needed that reminder.
You know I needed to read this. Perfect timing, as always.
And I am sooooo going to make those cheesy beans. For me, it was the pepperoni. I'm now completely addicted to turkey pepperoni. :-)
My I love what you said, may I please put that last paragraph on my blog with your permission
and " " to you?
Blessings
