The phone rings and it's a weird number, but with realtors calling from cell phones, we've got a lot of weird numbers showing up on Caller I.D.
I answer the phone and fake Rachel says, "this is an important notice regarding your credit card. You are paying too much interest and we can remedy that immediately. Press 9 and stay on the line and someone will be available to assist you immediately."
Out of curiosity I press '9', and the background sound changes to a call center, and some guy comes on, and starts talking fast, saying he's there to 'assist' me and do I have more than $5,000 in credit card debt? I ask him, is "Card Services' a division of my credit card company, or a stand-alone company? He tells me they are a company designed to help me lower my interest rates, on ALL my cards.
I told him "I only have one card, pay it in full every month and so I don't really care what the interest rate is on it, since I don't ever pay interest."
And he says, and I'm still jaw-dropping a little bit over it, he says, "Yeah, thanks for wasting my time, blah blah blah". He literally says "blah blah blah".
I'm still a bit insulted over the entire experience. Usually I'm the one being abrubt and then feeling like a jerk after I hang up because some poor sap has a job he hates and if it was my kid I'd want someone to be nice to them, so I was nice-ish. And he was rude.
I'm relatively confident that young man has maxed out his career. Unless he wants to start a talk show or apply to go on Donald Trump's reality show. Who was wasting whose time?????
Next time I'll just nicely say goodbye and hang up. I sure don't want to be wasting some telemarketer's time, for pete's sake!

Unbelievably, I got exactly the same call from "Rachel" yesterday, telling me my credit card account was in good standing but she needed to talk to me about my interest rate and how I could lower it.
I do not have a credit card. Haven't had one in ten years.
If that kid hates his job so much he's being rude to people, he needs to find another job.
Boy, I LOVE this new template. :-)
I think I talked to the same guy. I pressed 9 because I wanted to a) see who was calling and how they got my number and b) ask to be put on the "do not call" list. Meany McNastybritches couldn't have been more rude. I'll spare you the details, but it was one of the most unpleasant telephone encounters I've ever had. I agree that he may have been promoted to the level of his incompetence. I just hope he's not such a stinkpot in real life.
Woohoo! Look at your new design- very fresh:-)
Which is more than I can say for the telemarketer! You must have been incredulous when he said you wasted his time... oh my, that takes the cake!
I have no words. Except this one: unbelievable.
I add my kudos to your template change up. Radical, man. :)
Love the new fresh clean look!
What is up with these telemarketers? They are getting more obnoxious all the time. Who's wasting whose time indeed!
Okay, now that was funny! I'd have been horrified, too, but it's sort of refreshing that at least somebody said what we're all thinking! I hope "Rachel" calls me--I can't wait to strike up a conversation with him!! Maybe I'll put Caiden on the phone . . .
Hey Mom, look at this link: http://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-407-000-7777/3
The whole thing is a scam from somebody wanting credit card numbers! No wonder he was so rude--he's a crook!
And I love your new template.
And I'll stop leaving you comments now. :)
My jaw has dropped and now dropped even more after reading what Sarah wrote about the scam!! Oh my goodness!
