Life is too short

to finish a book that doesn't make me give up sleep. I just did not love Knit Two. Within a few pages of starting it, I was weary of trying to mentally keep track of all the characters, the drama that was going on in their lives, and I somehow knew every single one of them would have it all worked out by the end of the book.

There are so many good books out there, and I'm sure some of you will jump up defending this particular one, but it just didn't do anything for me. I made it through Friday Night Knit Club and actually enjoyed it, but when I picked this one up, I realized I'd forgotten every single character..

So I'm shaking the dust off my feet and moving on! Next in line is My Sister's Keeper, by Jodi Picoult. I rarely read her books (my sister has ready every single one I believe) but this particular story, about a child conceived to donate bone marrow (I believe) for her older sister who is battling cancer, sounds like something that will grab me. And as soon as I finish the book, we'll be off to the theater since it's coming out as a movie.

So many (good) books, so little time. Knit Two has a hold on it at the library, and maybe the next person in line will feel completely different about it. Just my opinion. Did anyone out there read it, and did you love it or hate it or somewhere in between? And if you read My Sisters Keeper, what did you think of it? Am I going to stay up too late with this one?

I vowed not to comment or write a blog for awhile, but I am breaking my fast because ... I just read My Sister's Keeper. Oh, my! You will not be able to put that one down. But then again, I feel that way about all of JP's writings.

As for the Knitting books. I felt the same way. I read them both, got through them both, but my problem was the same as yours. Too many characters with little to keep them distinct. I was lost from the beginning and never did get into them but forced myself to finish.

Zipping my mouth closed again ...

I just recently finished "Friday Nite" (got it at a Book Swap). Wanted to read it because of all the "buzz" and because growing up, the women in our neighborhood had a Friday Nite Knitting Club.

Well, I am in agreement with you and the other Becky. I got through it, but not much of the story line "rang true" and the characters were almost cardboard...did not connect with any of them. The ending ~ just felt like it was shock value.

Can't tell you the last time I read a good book....although, I'm looking forward to the one you love, Bev ~ "Guernsey...." I just have to track it down.

Loved My Sister's Keeper. I have heard that the movie is drastically different, so I'm not sure I'll go see it.

I'm in a book club (seven of us; we're in our sixth year) and you might want to check out our list. We tend to do southern fiction but try to included a classic and a biography as well as a nonfiction or two each year. If you head over to my blog, the link is on the left side bar: Bluestockings.

I'm a Jodi Picoult fan, usually. She had one book having to do with wicca that kind of creeped me out, but she's an excellent writer, and I'm never bored when I read her.

One of the reasons my hubby and I lurve the library so is that we have guilt free reading (or not) experiences. If I'd have spent 12-25.00 on a book, I'd really want to love it.

Good for you for moving on. I'm telling you...if you haven't read Lorna Landvik or Gail Tsukiyama, you haven't lived. Just sayin. ;)

And, I too, need to get Guernsey.

I am currently reading 'My Sister's Keeper' and I am loving it! I am only about 100 pages into it, but it so well written and keeps you wanting to know more.

Thanks for the tip about the Knitting books. I have actually been wanting to read them but have never seemed to put them at the top of my list. Now I don't have to!

The titles of Picoult's that I have read are engrossing. I haven't read My Sister's Keeper yet but have friends who have and they loved it. At the moment I'm reading Handle with Care by Picoult. The disease in it, Osteogenesis Imperfecta, is what my daughter has. Ringing a bit true to home in some areas and making it a heart-filled read. I would recommend it too.

Also add Water for Elephants to you list. Wonderful story with a perfect ending.

You know how I feel about Jodi Picoult - she's one of the few authors whose books I collect. My Sister's Keeper was the first of her books I ever read and the reason she became a favorite. You'll stay up too late reading this one - and the ending will shock you. Great, great book.

My Sister's Keeper was the first JP book I read...I actually read it a little over a year ago and finished it when I visited my daughter after she had a baby! It was one of those that sort of grabbed you and I was shaken by the ending! Hope you enjoy it.

As much as I enjoyed Friday Night Knitting, I could not get into Knit Two. I ended up bringing it back to the library without finishing it.

I have read and liked My Sisters Keeper. I've read just a couple of Jodi Picoult's books and have enjoyed them but I must say her topics are not always an easy or comfortable read.
