Mac or Not?

I'm still in Texas but finally, after three weeks, headed back home to Pennsylvania tomorrow. Home sweet home. Being gone for three weeks will make you miss the place your favorite coffee cup, robe, books, yarn stash, husband and family members are - not in that order BTW.

So once I'm back home, it's time to deal with my computer. Here's what mine looks like:

Not pretty but it works and I'm thankful for that, but we need a longer term solution. Our family is getting on the Mac wagon, and I'm wondering - should I? We? Don does not love the idea, but agreed to whatever I decide since I'm the one on it most of the time. I figure by the time he retires next spring I should be competent enough that I can show him around. While I was in Texas I used Sarah's Mac and didn't find it any different at all, as far as the internet went. I hear you don't  have to load a lot of anti-virus protection stuff... apparently Macs don't get the flu like regular PCs.

I'm also considering going back to a desk top because the monitors are as big as our TV screenand I'm semi-blind. Macs not only don't get the flu supposedly, they also have cool stuff so I can see friends and family and chat with them I guess. Or something like that.

So - I need opinions. Anyone out there try a Mac and NOT like it? Anyone go to a laptop and then back to a desktop and wish they hadn't.

I've got about $1500 to spend. What do you think? When I get back home from all my wanderings I need to deal with this, because clearly the setup I have right now is less than perfect.

Go with the mac. The learning curve is there, but its short. You could get a great laptop (or probably desktop) with your budget. If you get a laptop the new macs screens are HD so phenomenal viewing that's easy on the eyes. Also, with your creative mind you'll navigate and utilize it well. I could go on and on...

Check out www.macmall.com for refurbished ones.

I got a MacBook for my birthday and I love it. It's true - they don't get the flu. And since our kids moved to Peru we have found the built in camera to be indespensible for skyping with the kids. We can also use the built in program iChat (if both parties have Mac's).
I really love it and it seems so much more user-friendly to me than the old pc.

Get a Mac! You won't regret it. Frankly, I'm a little suspicious of anyone who gets a Mac and doesn't love it. ;)

My grandparents got a mac and have had it for awhile and love it! My brother Doug swears by them and he gave mac lessons to my grandparents. We are about to get a mac that he refurbished for us. Im sure he would be happy to help you set yours up and give you the run down if you wanted that.

My daughter thinks if you don't have a Mac you're crazy! Mine's a PC but now that I have a laptop, I don't think I'll ever go back to a desktop. I love being able to take it with me when I travel.

Love, love, love my mac! If you live anywhere near an Apple store, try the One-to-One training. For about $100. you get 52 weeks of "personal training" on your Mac.

Once you go Mac, you won't go back! I honestly don't know of a single person who has ever gone FROM Mac TO PC.

My hubby, a medical administrator by day, moonlights as a one-to-one trainer at our local Apple store, teaching people how to use their computers, iPhones, iPods and the like. Well worth the $$ if you live close enough to an Apple store to take advantage of it.
