I'm using a method of self-teaching called "living books", reading books, non-fiction and fiction, rather than typical dry, dusty text books. Since I'm reading up on Ancient Egypt right now, I headed to the library and did a search on novels about Ancient Egypt. I finally walked away with 'Nefertiti, Queen of Egypt, Daughter of Eternity' by Michelle Moran. Takes place about 1350 B.C. I've always loved historical fiction, enough facts to get something out of the book, and enough story to hold my interest. Good historical fiction should put the reader right there, in the middle of the time period, smelling the smells, hearing the sounds, seeing the sights, and also the world then through the eyes of the main characters.
The book's jacket describes it this way: 'love, betrayal, political unrest, plague and religious conflict - Nefertiti brings Ancient Egypt to life in vivid detail. Fast-paced and historically accurate, it is the dramatic story of two unforgettable women living through a remarkable period in history.'
What a great way to learn - just pick up a book about whatever you're interested in and dive in. While I was at the library I spied several on Anthony and Cleopatra which should make for great reading later this fall.

I love the way you are "homeschooling" yourself. I get that everyday helping my kids (12 & 15) homeschool. I have a great recommendation for you. We are going thru a book called "The Fallacy Detective" and as an adult I wish I had known about these fallacies earlier in life. Especially during election time..ha. Anyway, It is an easy read and I bet you will end up reading it out loud to your husband because it makes for great conversation. Happy Learning!
