Shopping for Shoes...

is a challenge for me. Not only do I wear a size that doesn't exist, 10 1/2, (trust me on this - they go from 9 to 9 1/2 to 10 to 11, completely skipping me), but with feet that size it's hard to see the reasoning of buying a pointy shoe that makes feet look even longer. Truth be told pointy shoes look to me like add the striped stockings and you have something that looks like the house fell on it.

It's a challenge to find anything. Either the 10's hurt, or the 11's slip and slide. So I just don't buy shoes very much. Or I didn't. I started watching What Not to Wear, and seeing myself much too often, I realized I need to try a bit harder. There ARE a few stores that carry roomy 10's, and not-so-wide 11's - hoorah for Target and Kohl's and Kmart. (And if you happen to be tall and know of others, share the love.)

So I went on a 'hunt for pointy shoes' shopping trip. Everyone knows when a girl goes shoe shopping she needs a partner, to give constructive criticism. So I took someone with me. Here's what we agreed worked.

My shopping partner thought these would be a good basic with jeans. I would have preferred black and a bit more pointedy but this was the best I could find, so far.

We liked these better, being silver and goldish. I'm finding I can wear these a lot. I like the cute little bows and the height of the heel. Being 5'10" I can already tell who needs to have their roots touched up way too often, so I don't need a 3" heel on a shoe. With a husband who is 6'0", and isn't a thing like Tom Cruise, he agrees we should skip the 3" heels.

These were my favorite find of the day. No heel to speak of, but the illusion of one, and a very fun buckle. I have some very cute chocolate brown capris and a dark brown pencil skirt that might work well with these.

My shopping partner chose these. I offered him a latte but he insisted these were the payment he wanted for his shopping advice.Sure sign that he chose well - he wore them around the clock for three days, til they left circles around his ankles and I strongly suggested that we should take them off for a little while, just to let his skin recover. I do have to say I think the co-hosts of WNTW would agree they look marvelous with the outfit.  Total cost of our shoe outing - $46.00 - for four pairs of shoes. Thank you, Miss Kmart!

Landon is such a cutie! I can't wait to take our Josh shopping (he's not quite two).

I think you chose well and your favorite would have been my top pick too.

Wear them in good health!

I like ALL your choices!!

I love the ones with the buckle. So cute. All three are great choices. I never know what kind of socks to wear with those though. My daughter would tell me no socks, but bare feet in closed shoes and me do not mix well. I wonder what your shopping partner and advisor would tell me.

And I'm so loving his choice for himself too! :v)

I was wondering who your shopping partner was, and then when I realized it was Landon, I about fell over laughing! Too funny!

Great shoe selections, and I'm coveting the last pair!!

And Susanne--if you want to wear socks with your closed-toe shoes, try those ankle-high hose thingies; they'll make you feel like you have on appropriate sockwear, but they won't show above your shoe or horrify your daughter :)

Bless your heart! I thought I was the only one besides Oprah that wore a size 10 (sometimes size 11). At least you've got some height == I'm only 5-4. When my baby was born, and they put her little footprint on paper I saw the two nuses laughing..... it was because they had to turn the square on the diagonal, and her footprint still completely filled the square. Ha I love all your coices also. Kmart has all but disappeared in our neck of the woods. Praise God for Target. Blessings!

I should have used spellcheck -- haven't had caffeine yet!

I feel your pain! My problem is not a difficulty in finding the size, but finding shoes that don't hurt. I have a neuroma on my right foot and any heel is just deadly. I'm about to bite the bullet and spend big bucks on a pair from zappo.com. It will be worth it if I can wear a bit of a heel without limping.

How fun! And I love all four pairs of shoes.

Wow, you did awesome!! I love all three pairs! And I can SO relate to your shopping woes--we could definitely shop together and whine when necessary! :o) I clearly remember shopping trips in high school that I would come home 100% empty-handed and in tears because I could find NOTHING--shoes, pants, anything--that would fit me. My hightop basketball shoes were often boys! Fortunately, life is a little better these days for us tall gals--but there's still plenty of room for improvement!! Thanks for the inspiration to check out my own shoe stock and see where I can make some improvements! Love and blessings, Karen

I love that! Your shopping partner has great taste, and I love the payment he took. He wears them well for sure. What a fun memory ... for YOU I mean.

I love your shopping partners taste, I think the two of you did very well together!

I love, love shoes, but truly would be happiest if flip flops were appropriate year round. You just can't go wrong with them!

How funny! The whole time I was reading this I was thinking...'I wonder who her shopping partner was...' So cute to see it revealed at the end. And he STILL loves his Spiderman shoes. He slept in them last night! :)

Wow. Look at all your new shoes! They're all cute but I guess I'm the reason they created What Not to Wear because there's no way I'm doing pointy toes. All the pointy shoes I wore when I worked are the reason I now have nice bunions and bunions and pointy just don't mix.

I could very easily wear HIS shoes though. Good grief, how cute is that?

My daughter, bless her 11 year old heart, wears a 10.5 or 11, and we're not sure if she's finished growing. :)

Payless Shoe Source is our friend. Cute shoes which aren't an arm and a leg--especially since she's growing and wearing them out. And for good shoes which must last: Nordstrom (online works)has a wide range of sizes. My dad has a club foot and Nordies always comps him so he doesn't have to buy 2 pair of shoes just because his feet are way different sizes.

BTW, cute shoes. And CUTE partner.
