The Simple Woman's Daybook

FOR TODAY, October 27, 2008...

Outside my window... it's a bit blustery, with leaves dancing across the lawn, and bushy-tailed squirrels are gathering the acorns and walnuts from the lawn. I see a bit of blue sky, so it should be a beautiful day today.

I am thinking... when I look back, at the end of the week, I'd like it to have been calm and productive.

I am thankful for... new tires and wiper blades on the car. Snow flurries are predicted later this week, and snow showers are bound to be just around the corner. It feels good to have the car ready for winter.

From the kitchen... the last two cinnamon rolls from yesterday's brunch, and a cup of coffee with gingerbread creamer. Tonight - potato soup and grilled cheese sandwiches.

I am wearing... flannel sheep pjs and a white T-shirt, red Land's End slippers from a few Christmases ago (and the hole in the bottom of them tells the tale of how much I love them.)

I am creating... order! Paperwork filed away, laundry washed, dried and put away, menus for the week, and running some errands I've been putting off.

I am going... to wash the car today, one of my least favorite jobs in the world (because it scares me to drive through and try to line up the tires, dumb I know.) It needs it badly.

I am reading...'Overcoming Overload, Seven Ways to Find Rest in Your Chaotic World" by Steve & Mary Farrar (it's been on my shelf for over a year.) I've been hankering to check out Robinson Crusoe lately and think I'll pick it up from the library, I loved it the first time around...

I am hoping... to find time for a short nap and some quilting today.

I am hearing... the furnace kicking on. Morning temperatures are dipping into the thirties already.

Around the house... oh for a change I think I'll do some painting! This week's project - the kitchen doors and window that were Pottery Barn black, back to fresh white, a part of the all-neutral staging process.

One of my favorite things... the feeling a Monday morning offers - a fresh canvas, with all sorts of possibilities - to bless my family, to honor God, to make a difference in my corner of the world.

A Few Plans For The Rest Of The Week: Sewing with my quilting group, lunch and a movie with my daughter, a dear friend and her daughter, and looking for a book by Christopher Lowell on rearranging the rooms of your house. I'd love to take it with us to Texas next month, and the 40% coupon from Michaels or Joann's should bring it down to something reasonable. I'm also hoping to set up a 1-31 day tickler file, recommended by the book on organzing papers that I just finished. I'd love to tame the paper monster at our house!

Here is a picture thought I am sharing...

The world isn't going to stop revolving if we take a wee bit of time for the softer things of life, for a short nap, or curling up with a cup of chai tea and a good book. In fact, it may equip us to bless those around us, just by the slowing down, rather than rushing through this life. Visit Peggy at The Simple Woman for more (LOTS more) daybooks.

I'm not the only one who gets nervous about getting into the carwash! I'm ok once I've actually got the wheels on and the car stopped ~ but, oh, that nervewracking moment before the light turns red and I slam my foot on the brake, knowing I've done it right! Blessings today! &:o)

Love your outlook on Monday as a fresh slate:-) I'm going to try to share that positive attitude as I tackle some work projects I have put off as long as possible.

Sounds like a wonderful day ad week, and reading your daybook encouraged me to finally post my own. Good luck in the car wash- I always get slightly nervous about lining up the wheels, too, and finally have sworn them off!

I feel the same way about Mondays! Maybe it's a hold-over from starting school each week with a fresh perspective.

Oh, potato soup? My grum makes a wonderful potato soup. I should call her and get directions.

I, too, have carwash issues. Will pray for you. :)

I have a shower to go to this week for a soon-to-arrive baby boy. Hello--great excuse to do a quilt! :) Don'tcha love it when you "have" to make something?

This was my first time to do a daybook and I loved it. It seemed to anchor me a little, and get me quiet in the way I should be as I look toward the day or the week.

I JUST discovered Chai tea. Oh, my! I've been so sheltered.

It's always fun to take a peek into the Mondays of others. ;-)

That gingerbread creamer sounds like a MUST have! ;-)

I know exactly what you mean about the dread of driving through those carwashes. I have that same pesky fear, that I won't line the tires up right. It's just too much pressure! ;-Þ

I love your attitude about Monday mornings. I should stamp that on my forehead Sunday night before bed so that I can see it when I look in the mirror on Mondays.
